Today I am bringing you my ‘go to’ Aldi keto shopping list items that are also budget friendly. I’m even providing a link to a free printable to save you time. Hey, we can all use more of that, right?
What prompted us to examine our diet
There’s nothing like finding out your husband is type II diabetic to make you start to question your food choices. That was the case for us several years ago. My husband had several bad days and symptoms that we kept brushing off. It wasn’t until we were at his mother’s house that it hit me. He might be having blood sugar issues. After all, his mom was diagnosed a few years earlier as a type II diabetic. Since I understood diabetes to be hereditary, we asked to use her glucometer to check his blood sugars. Sure enough, it was dangerously high. The following Monday, we saw a doctor. He confirmed the diagnosis as type II diabetes, immediately putting him on two prescription medications.
That was the beginning of an eye opening and research driven journey. We were determined to find a better way to fuel our bodies and care for each other. A lifetime commitment to prescription medication was not our desire. So I began lots of digging and found that reducing our carb intake was the best plan of action. As we dove into learning more about nutrition and what a low-carb lifestyle looked like, we discovered the ketogenic diet. This seemed to be a great option for us to follow as a guide. We have tried to stick with it for several years. While we are definitely not strict keto, we do make it our aim.
What Keto looks like in our home
Filling our menu with lots of fresh produce, healthy fats and protein and real whole foods as opposed to the processed food temptations is now the norm. Once we discovered how much sugar was hidden in our kitchen, we made a commitment to eliminate as much as possible and learned that the keto lifestyle made us feel so much better physically and mentally. Personally, I had no idea how much of a fidgeter (if that’s a word???) I was. After reducing carbs and sugar, I began to notice how still my body was when sitting in church and that I was able to concentrate so much better.
But Keto is expensive. Right?
I had always thought that eating healthy was more expensive, but I am so thankful that I discovered Aldi grocery stores and am thrilled to see that they have added many more locations across the U.S. When it comes to eating healthy, no one can beat their great prices and their commitment to providing non-GMO products. Prior to discovering Aldi, I had always shopped my local grocery store, but discovered that when I made the switch to Aldi, I regularly saved at least 25% on my groceries. We’ve recently moved, but I still manage to find Aldi stores in the towns nearby and make it a point to shop at one of them when I have the chance. They simply have the best prices on almost everything we buy. This keeps me on my toes now and I always keep my Aldi grocery shopping list handy on my phone in order to take advantage of quick trips to one of those locations.
Not a disclaimer: It may sound like this post is sponsored by Aldi but, alas, it is not. I just absolutely LOVE their stores and wish that everyone would give them a try.
Some of our favorite Aldi Keto Friendly Items
Here are just some of my top picks:

1) Countryside Creamery Heavy Whipping Cream – We are big coffee drinkers around here and heavy whipping cream is my morning luxury. I was surprised to learn that a serving of HWC has no sugar and only 1 carb. Over time, I have learned to drink my coffee without sugar. But I truly love my HWC and it is always at the very top of my list.
2) Happy Farms Cream Cheese – I have a lot of keto recipes that use cream cheese. So I seem to buy about it like it was butter. Nothing beats a yummy keto pizza crust.
3) Parmesan Cheese Crisps – These are a real treat for me. Sometimes, though, you just have to have a little bit. Right? The first time I tried these, I knew I was in trouble.
4) Almond milk – Other than HWC, we don’t drink a lot of dairy products. So almond milk is our go to for smoothies and cooking.
5) Grass-fed beef – We are blessed to be able to raise our own chicken. However, we do love red meat and the Aldi grass-fed beef is budget friendly and tastes great.
definitely a great deal. I love the small packaging and the taste is phenomenal. It’s the base of a whole lot of our favorite recipes.

6) Bone Broth – I try to make homemade bone broth each time I roast a chicken. When I am not on my game, Aldi’s Bone Broth is a great way to keep getting that dense nutrition into my favorite recipes.
7) Cauliflower – We try to steer away from starchy root vegetables. So cauliflower is one another of our go to shopping list items for keeping us on a low carb diet. It has gotten really expensive in local big box store in town, but Aldi always has the best price on them.
7) Happy Farms String Cheese – THIS! With only 1 g net carbs and 7 grams of protein, this is a perfect keto snack. We always have several bags on hand. It’s a handy and a good option for grabbing a snack on the run.
8) Clancy’s Pork Rinds – Another must have is pork rinds, one of our favorite snacks. They can also be ground and used in place of bread crumbs in recipes. This helps us stick to our low-carb diet.

9) Almond flour – Another staple which I use in a lot of different keto recipes. This Baker’s Corner almond flour is a great deal. Just another of Aldi’s low prices.
10) Specialty Selected Chevre (or goat cheese)- This goat cheese comes plain and with cranberries or other spices. We love it on pizza or in salads.
11) Southern Grove Whole Almonds– Nothing travels as well as a small bag of nuts and almonds.
12) Eggs – We are currently raising chickens and laying hens so I am not currently buying eggs. But this is one item that used to be on my list every week. Rarely can you beat their price.
13) Lemons – We drink a lot of homemade rehydration drink, so we go through a lot of lemons. Just adding a little slice of lemon to any drink makes it feel like a treat.
14) Oranges – Our definite treat of choice when trying to stay on track is a yummy, juicy naval orange. It’s the perfect sweet treat for filling that sweet tooth and for boosting our vitamin C levels.
15) Avocados – Not only in homemade guacamole, but also just sliced with a little spritz of lemon juice and salt. Avocados are most always on the list.
16) Cabbage – Coleslaw is a regular a couple of times a week at our house. We also enjoy some sautéed cabbage as a side with a grilled steak.
17) Green beans – one of my favorite veggies is Aldi’s fresh green beans.
18) Brussel sprouts – Another vegetable I never imagined I would ever say I enjoyed is brussel sprouts. It turns out bacon can make absolutely anything take incredible.
19) Deutsche Kuche German Style Sauerkraut – One of the best probiotics to have in your refrigerator is sauerkraut. This brand is a great price and only contains cabbage, water and salt.
20) Simply Nature Organic Coconut Oil – It’s not only for cooking. We use this coconut oil in our coffee and in our peanut butter cup fat bombs.
21) Baker’s Corner Baking Cocoa – Again, those fat bombs. Gotta have some yummy cocoa.

22) Burman’s Dijon, Spicy Brown and Yellow Mustard – We love mustard, all the mustards! The price is incredibly cheap and the flavor is great.
23) Simply Nature Organic Salsa – My husband prefers homemade salsa. But I can ALMOST pass this stuff off as my own. We eat this on eggs, salads, tacos…you name it.
24) Specially Selected Kalamata Olives – We are lovers of all things Mediterranean. These kalamata olives top off the perfect Greek salad

25) Pickles – Another snack that we cannot never have enough of. When we are craving something strong and with few calories, it’s pickles for the win. The
The items above are on my list today and are among our favorites. They are the items that remain in our kitchen and most of them are stocked up in our basement pantry. Another area of the store that we also enjoy is the section we call the “ooh section”. It is weekly stocked with new items that are always a surprise. Well, it’s a surprise if you don’t read the sales flyer the week prior. There is usually a theme like fitness in the month of January, holiday decor and gifts around Christmas, and garden supplies in the spring. There are always good deals on household goods and treats from around the world.
Not only are the prices great, but we have never been disappointed with anything we have bought there. I wish they were everywhere, but if you have an opportunity to shop an Aldi location near you, do it!
